What is a maintenance plan?

A maintenance plan documents the equipment and a schedule of what type of maintenance needs to be done. It also specifies the work to be done by means of a work breakdown structure for every action.

Furthermore, an effective maintenance plan follows the principles of engineering best practice, which state that there are three basic types of maintenance that should be considered in a maintenance plan:

Manufacturers require that their equipment be maintained to validate a warranty and to have documented proof of this. Most suppliers require at least two major services in the first 12 months, depending on the area and operating environment, as this might differ from site to site.
